We dropped Brother #2 at college today! I won't miss him much, since he's been at boarding school for two years, but it is sort of weird thinking of him as a college student. And I'm a high school student! O_O *explode*
Anyway, he's at NEC in Boston. After helping him unpack a bit, we (parents and me) took him out to eat with Blondie, who is also a freshman at the school.
But before the food, there was an amazing concert! The performers were all students at NEC, working for either a bachelor's or master's degree in music. First, there was a cellist who played Bach, and then a pianist and singer performed something from a Spanish opera. The soprano was wonderful, and she was blind. It was really powerful to see her up on stage, singing her heart out. There was a flutist who played something by a composer I'd never heard of, and that was awesome, too. He seemed very nice.
My favorite part was a piano piece by Lizst, a famous composer and piano virtuoso. The pianist was a cute-looking young man who was probably Korean, but I'm not sure. I swear, his hands were like a blur sometimes! And the music was really beautiful, although I can't really give Lizst credit for that, as he took the melodies from an opera. His music is generally about the technique, not the the music, so I'm not a fan.
This has been a terrible day for my body image. Sigh. I just goot this adorable t-shirt online, and it's sort of tight. The jeans are low right now, so my flab is more prominent than I'd like it to be. Sometimes I just get depressed about the way I look, even though I know it's not important. I think it stems from my desire for a life partner, and the message I'm getting from the media that says, "No man wants you... you're too fat! Lose some weight, then you can have what you want." Except, I'm not going to do that because I don't need to. Grrrrr...
I think one of my parents' worst mistakes was letting me play with Barbies. Sure, I enjoyed them, but look at that last paragraph! I'm ashamed of its subject matter, and would only say those things out loud to my closest friends. But this is what blogs are for, I guess.

I should really be doing work, not blogging about this, but... Oh, well.
Happy birthday, Raidou! <3
Namiashi Raidou. I love him because he's pretty much average, and one could argue that there are too many outstanding characters in Naruto. Plus, his scar is cool. This is not the most attractive picture of him, but it was the best I could find. He's a pretty minor character. ^_^
And here he is with the beautiful Genma. They're good friends. Also a popular slash couple. *cough*
ALSO: HAPPY (LATE) BIRTHDAY TO TEMARI!
This is a hilariously popular screenshot from the anime.
And this one's just hilarious. I think it's from a pretty intense scene, but... I mean, come on! Look at her her mouth! (It's funny because she's generally very serious and confident.)
And 2.5 years later! She's with Shikamaru in this one. It's hinted that they're dating, and they're absolutely adorable together, regardless of the nature of the relationship. When he's younger, Shika always talks about how annoying women are, and how he wants one who is average-looking and easy-going. Temari doesn't exactly fit that description!
OKAY! TIME FOR SCHOOLWORK!!!!!

Rest in peace, Zabuza-san.

Last night's game
Hello, my friends, and Happy Thursday!!!! (AF is in a good mood this morning...)
I got a haircut yesterday! Now it's pretty short because I want to get rid of the layers. I figured out that when you're not really doing anything to your hair, they're just annoying. But don't worry, Thina--I still want to grow it out.
Last night, I played D&D and it was AWESOME. My character, Gwyn, hasn't really been developed, and I did an awful job with the role-playing. But it was still fun, and the others told me the first time is always tough. ^_^ I want to tell you a bit about the characters just because they're so cool...
-Mom plays Trillium Giantsbane, a druid with an awesome cape and lots of magic.
-Brother #2 plays an elf named Timballisto. The group like to joke about how he doesn't have much personality, but I think he's cool. He has to giant dog-like creatures that follow him everywhere.
-Brother #2's close friend (we'll call him Blondie) plays Sabin, a handsome knight with a horse named Winter (yes, a white horse). Sabin is a very, very good person, but he's also pretty stupid.
-Brother #1 plays a powerful wizard named Marlowe. He has a monkey.
-And I play Gwyn! She is Marlowe's body guard, and he really needs one. Without his magic, he's pathetically weak, and he has very bad luck.
Step is the Dungeon Master, so he tells us what to do and plays all the other characters. He's very good at the voices and super creative. A DM also has to be flexible because the characters often decide what happens. I love that aspect of D&D. <3
There's only one thing I really want to tell you about last night's game, and you'll need to understand something first. Before one can attack, one needs to roll a 20-sided die, and the number decides whether one hits or misses (it's very exciting
). However, when someone rolls and gets 1, he needs to roll percentile dice to see if it is a regular miss, or a special one. If he gets a high number (I think that's what it is), it's special. He needs to roll again to see which one--The DM has a list of 100 different failure stories.
This happened to Blondie. Everyone got really excited and Brother #2 said this was 20% of the fun of D&D, since they're usually hilarious (like, "hit self in head with weapon" or something like that). At the moment he rolled, he was standing next to Tim as they both prepared to attack an enemy. As Step searched for the correct number, the guys joked about what could happen (Brother #1: "Decapitate adjacent elf!"). Step began to laugh at what he saw on his computer screen, clearly surprised. He looked at Brother #2....
"Well, you didn't need that arm anyway!"
Yes. Sabin accidentally cut off Tim's right arm. At the shoulder. Keeping in mind, we are all companions.
Everyone was just about hysterical with laughter.
A few minutes later, when things had calmed down, #2 went to the kitchen for some pizza. He came back holding a slice with his left hand, as his other arm was inside his t-shirt. I was laughing so hard that I cried.
Thankfully, Tim is fine, but things might be a bit awkward with Sabin from now on. xD
D&D is made of awesome.
